Payment Collection Is a Nightmare

A teacher in Kinshasa can only use bank transfer. But the moment a customer in Cameroon pays you, you've created a cross-border transaction with tax implications, VAT obligations, and regulatory requirements that differ from country to country. Multiply this by 10 or 20 countries, and you're looking at a compliance burden that would challenge a mid-size company — let alone a solo creator.
Africa comprises 54 sovereign nations, each with unique tax codes, consumer protection statutes, and data privacy regulations. Without a dedicated legal team, most creators simply avoid cross-border sales altogether — limiting themselves to a single domestic market that may be too small to sustain their business.
No Storefront, No Brand, No Data
Without a proper storefront, you're selling through DMs, bio links, and social media posts. You have no product catalogue. No professional checkout experience. No customer database. No analytics to understand what's selling, who's buying, and where your next growth opportunity lies. You're running a business with zero business infrastructure.
International platforms like Gumroad, Teachable, or Payhip technically work — but they don't accept African payment methods, don't understand African currencies, and aren't optimised for the low-bandwidth, mobile-first reality of African internet users. Using them means asking your African customers to behave like American customers. That is a losing strategy.
